Google Wallet just got a major travel-friendly upgrade. According to 9to5Google, the latest update to Google Play Services (v25.41), Wallet now supports Live Updates, a real-time feature from Android 16 that keeps key travel details front and center. Whether you’re tracking a flight, train, or event, these updates promise to make your voyages smoother and far less stressful.
1. Real-time flight and train tracking
No more frantic app-switching or digging through confirmation emails. Google Wallet Live Updates can now display up-to-the-minute flight or train information, including delay notifications, gate changes, and even trip progress, right on your lock screen or always-on display. These updates appear as sleek “pills” on the lockscreen or a persistent bar at the top, similar to how Android’s lock screen notifications have evolved over the years.
2. Smarter notifications that actually matter
Previously, Wallet only gave static notifications. Now, updates adapt as your trip unfolds. Boarding times, departure changes, or event start reminders will dynamically refresh in real time. It’s especially helpful during layovers or when you’re juggling multiple bookings. That “boarding soon” alert might just save you a sprint across terminals.
3. One-tap travel companion for everything else
This update also strengthens Wallet’s role as a full travel assistant, syncing seamlessly with Google Maps and ride-share services like Uber or Lyft for continuity from your boarding gate to your destination. You can even track upcoming concerts or events using the same Live Update interface, with tickets, timing, and navigation all in one glance. Google has been steadily transforming Wallet from a digital cardholder into an intelligent daily assistant.
Beyond travel, Wallet users can now add cards directly from banking apps without typing details manually. Those on older Android versions will receive loyalty pass alerts straight from Gmail imports. Small touches like these hint that Google is finally catching up to Apple’s Live Activities, making Android’s version just as seamless for travelers who rely on their phones to stay organized on the go.
