The British Standards Institution (BSI) has launched a new Mark of Trust for data centers, designed to help tech companies and their supply chains demonstrate compliance with the highest global standards for reliability, security, and sustainability. The initiative comes amid rapid growth in the data center industry, driven by the rising demand for AI, cloud computing, and digital services, which has put increasing pressure on infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and environmental resources.
The Mark of Trust provides a globally recognized, independent framework to validate technical, operational, and compliance excellence across data center facilities and operations. The framework is modular, covering key areas such as business continuity, carbon and water management, and operational security, allowing organizations to adopt modules relevant to their business priorities. BSI will continually review and update the modules to ensure they remain aligned with the industry’s evolving needs.
Following a pilot phase, BK Gulf LLC, a leading EPC contractor in the UAE and Middle East, became the first organization certified to the Availability and Protection module of the Mark of Trust. The certification demonstrates BK Gulf’s ability to deliver sustainable, reliable, and compliant data center infrastructure, aligning with international standards, including ISO/IEC 22237-1. The recognition highlights the company’s organizational capability, engineering excellence, and commitment to operational and environmental standards.
David Mudd, BSI’s Global Head of Digital Trust Assurance, emphasized the importance of resilient infrastructure in supporting AI and technology growth, noting that the Mark of Trust enables organizations to address operational, regulatory, and reputational pressures while inspiring trust among clients, regulators, and consumers. Andrew Butterfield, Managing Director of BSI Built Environment, highlighted BK Gulf’s leadership in embracing international best practices, following the company’s earlier achievement of the BIM Kitemark™.
