The Ministry of Digital Economy, Posts, and Telecommunications of the Central African Republic has informed both national and international audiences that acts of vandalism have been observed on key fiber optic infrastructure across the country. These incidents have caused temporary disruptions in telecommunications services and Internet access in multiple locations.
According to technical information gathered from operators and maintenance teams, the first incident occurred on the Bangui–Boali segment, where a fiber optic cut interrupted data transmission. A second cut was detected along the Carnot–Berberati route, confirming a double rupture in the network. Rapid response teams have already repaired the first break, restoring some services, while work continues to precisely locate and fix the second break approximately 849 meters from the identified reference point.
Specialized technicians are actively performing diagnostics and repairs to fully restore network continuity. Additional teams have been deployed to accelerate operations and minimize impact on users, public administrations, businesses, and essential services that rely heavily on digital communications.
Similar incidents have also been reported on infrastructure managed by the partner CAMTEL, including the Limbe–Batoke segment and the Bangui–Boali axis, about 12 km from the capital Bangui. These disruptions highlight the vulnerability of telecommunications infrastructure to sabotage and intentional damage.
The Ministry strongly condemns these acts of vandalism, which severely affect strategic national infrastructure, digital development, information access, economic activities, and national security. It emphasizes that protecting this infrastructure is a collective responsibility and calls on local authorities and security forces to strengthen surveillance, communities to report suspicious behavior, and operators to enhance preventive security and maintenance measures.
The Ministry reassures users that repair operations are ongoing and that full restoration of services will follow the completion of current technical work. Citizens are thanked for their patience and cooperation, and the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to developing a modern, secure, and resilient digital network in the Central African Republic.
