This integrated model strengthens security across both external (north-south) and internal (east-west) email traffic, using shared threat intelligence and behavioral signals to improve detection. A unified management interface also simplifies policy enforcement, investigation, and response.
Proofpoint, Inc. has announced a series of innovations across its Collaboration Security and Data Security portfolios, aimed at strengthening protection for the evolving agentic workspace—where humans and AI agents interact across communication and data environments to execute business-critical tasks.
The company noted that as organizations increasingly deploy AI assistants and autonomous agents, decision-making and access to sensitive data are being delegated at scale. This shift introduces new risks, as AI systems can draft communications, access data, and take actions at machine speed. Unlike traditional systems, AI operates based on prediction rather than fixed rules, requiring a new approach to enterprise security that goes beyond static access controls.
Email remains a primary entry point for cyberattacks, and with AI-driven interactions increasing, organizations face growing challenges in maintaining visibility and control. Proofpoint is addressing this by integrating layered email defense, AI-driven data governance, and hybrid data visibility into a unified platform, enabling security teams to reduce blind spots and respond to threats more effectively.
As part of its Collaboration Security enhancements, Proofpoint is combining its Secure Email Gateway (SEG) and API-based email protection into a single architecture. This integrated model strengthens security across both external (north-south) and internal (east-west) email traffic, using shared threat intelligence and behavioral signals to improve detection. A unified management interface also simplifies policy enforcement, investigation, and response.
“Email remains the front door to the enterprise, especially in environments where people and AI agents act on shared information. As organizations delegate more operational decisions to AI systems, security must connect signals across detection layers to understand not just isolated events, but patterns of behavior and underlying intent. We’re advancing collaboration security to reflect how work actually happens, protecting both human users and AI agents operating inside the same communication fabric. Only Proofpoint brings this level of integrated, end-to-end email security to market to deliver 99.999% detection efficacy.”

In the area of Data Security, Proofpoint introduced AI Data Access Governance capabilities, which provide visibility into data access across SaaS, cloud, and on-prem environments. The solution helps organizations identify risks such as orphaned accounts and excessive permissions, while enabling automated remediation to reduce exposure without manual intervention. By correlating identity activity, access patterns, and risk signals, organizations can move toward continuous risk reduction based on behavior and intent.
Proofpoint is also extending its AI-native Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) capabilities to on-premises environments. This expansion ensures consistent discovery and classification of sensitive data across hybrid infrastructures, giving organizations unified visibility and improved risk prioritization.
“Data risk no longer sits in one place. It moves across cloud services, on-prem systems, human users, and AI agents. We’re bringing data access governance and hybrid DSPM together within a single platform so organizations can see where sensitive data lives, understand who and what can access it, and take action based on meaningful behavioral signals. In the AI era, data governance ultimately depends on understanding not only the access, but also the intent behind it.”
– Mayank Chaudhary, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Data Security Group, Proofpoint
The new capabilities are expected to be made available in Q2 2026, with rollout timing subject to standard product and regional considerations, as Proofpoint continues to expand its security solutions for the AI-driven enterprise.
