Delegates from Smart Africa ’s Council of African IT Agencies (CAITA) are currently in Brussels, Belgium, for a study visit focused on advancing e-Governance harmonisation and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) across the continent.
The high-level delegation brings together representatives from 10 African countries, including Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, The Gambia, Morocco, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Tunisia. The visit is designed to facilitate a structured knowledge exchange with European counterparts on best practices in digital identity systems, interoperability frameworks, and trusted digital ecosystems.
A key focus of the engagement is strengthening Africa’s Digital Public Infrastructure architecture, particularly through the development of the Smart Africa Trust Alliance (SATA) Framework. Delegates are also gaining insights into the European Union’s established approaches to digital governance, with the aim of adapting and aligning similar models to African contexts.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to the development of a joint EU–Africa roadmap for trusted cross-border digital services. This initiative marks a significant step toward building more secure, interoperable, and inclusive digital systems that can support economic integration and service delivery across both regions, while laying the groundwork for a more connected and resilient digital future.
