The Agence de Régulation des Télécommunications – ART Cameroun carried out a series of field inspections in Douala on April 13–14, 2026, engaging key telecom stakeholders including MTN Cameroon, Orange Cameroun, and IHS Cameroon. The mission focused on reviewing the operators’ 2025 investments, assessing their 2026 strategic plans, and ensuring that commitments align with national priorities for improved telecommunications services.
During discussions with Orange Cameroun in Douala, the operator presented its 2025 achievements and outlined its ambitions for 2026, particularly around expanding network reach, improving quality of service (QoS), and strengthening overall infrastructure. The regulator emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring of investments and ensuring that service improvements are tangible for consumers across the country.
At MTN Cameroon, ART evaluated ongoing modernization efforts, including network expansion and preparations for future technologies such as 5G. The operator also highlighted plans to deploy IMS and VoLTE systems as part of its broader infrastructure upgrade strategy. The regulator reiterated the need for strict adherence to technical standards and nationwide coverage obligations.
In a parallel engagement with IHS Cameroon, the focus was placed on telecom infrastructure resilience and energy challenges affecting network stability. The company reported significant investments, estimated at 9.3 billion FCFA in 2025, aimed at strengthening passive infrastructure and improving reliability. Overall, ART maintained a firm stance that enhancing service quality, expanding coverage, and ensuring reliable connectivity remain top national priorities for the telecom sector in Cameroon.
