Ultrahuman is branching out – the smart ring company just unveiled the Ultrahuman Photon, a red light therapy device, which is currently on pre-order. You can visit the official site and reserve a unit for $249 – that’s less than half of what a typical red light therapy device costs, says the company.
You can read more about red light therapy over at Scientific American and Nature. It has been found to assist with post-exercise comfort and muscle recovery as well as improving skin health.
The Ultrahuman Photon emits two wavelengths of red light (660nm and 850nm)
The Photon has 12 LEDs that each emit two wavelengths simultaneously – 660nm and 850nm. 660nm light has been studied for its effects on skin appearance, collagen-related benefits and skin tone. 850nm light reaches deeper into the body and aids recovery.
The Photon can be used on its own, but it can also be used in conjunction with the company’s smart rings. You can pair it with the Ultrahuman Ring Pro (available in the US and internationally) or the Ultrahuman Ring Air (available internationally).

In the Ultrahuman app you will find a daily session recommendation card – this will show you things like the suggested session length and time of day based on your heart rate, recovery and sleep data. This additional data from the rings helps you track progress and adjust each session.
You can opt into a goal-oriented protocol choosing between Recovery, Skin, Sleep or General Wellness. This will rotate across different areas of the body during the week. There is also a time-of-day guidance depending on what you want to achieve – mornings are for activation, evenings are for winding down.
The Ultrahuman Photon and the Photon Protocols PowerPlug
The Photon is a hand-held device that weighs around 600g. Its built-in battery lasts up to six 10 minute sessions on a single charge and you can recharge it using USB-C. The device is in the process of securing certifications for the relevant FCC, CE, UKCA and RoHS standards.
You can pre-order the Ultrahuman Photon at $249 at ultrahuman.com. If you have a Ring Pro or Ring Air, you will get the Photon Protocols PowerPlug (app add-on) for free. The pre-orders are expected to ship next month.
