Sony has been working on its next-generation game console for quite some time. With the original PlayStation 5 touching the 6-year mark this November, there have been talks about the PlayStation 6 releasing in a year or two.
So, when is the PlayStation 6 expected to launch by Sony? Well, thanks to notable industry insider Millie A via X (Twitter), who shared a post that Sony has reserved a production slot for the new PlayStation 6 for May of 2027. While 2027 is still far away, it only makes sense to begin production for the PlayStation 6 at that time instead of holding it at a later date, considering the rising costs of hardware and various components don’t seem to be reducing anytime soon.
A lot of PlayStation fans were hoping to see the new console be released alongside the most-awaited game of the year- Grand Theft Auto VI – but that’s obviously not happening. However, once the console goes officially on sale towards the end of 2027 or maybe even 2028, everyone should be able to take advantage of the console’s hardware to get the best out of GTA VI.
Now, Sony has not made any official confirmation about the PlayStation 6 and its expected release, but there are still a good number of months and events, including the 2026 Gamescom event, where we might hear something about the PlayStation 6 from Sony themselves.
As for the price of the PlayStation 6, it may likely cost upwards of $900. This is keeping in mind how Sony has increased the prices of the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro, with the Pro model already at the $900 mark.
Now, the pricing and the release date for the PlayStation 6 will also have an impact on the next Xbox console. So until then, we’ll have to wait and see and hope that the prices come down a lot.
