The sequel to the original Mortal Shell video game was announced to the world during the Summer Games Fest that was held in June 2025. Fast-forward to 2026, and the developers dropped a release date trailer. Mortal Shell II is now set for a release on the 20th of August 2026, with pre-orders now live for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Mortal Shell II continues to be developed by the same team that created the prequel to the game. The publisher, Playstack, has not only played its role in both Mortal Shell games but has also been a part of the following games.
Mortal Shell II Gameplay
On the 1st of April 2026, we also got to see a 12-minute-long gameplay trailer that showcases the game’s mechanics, the game world that you will be playing in, as well as the three Shells: Tiel the Acolyte, Eredrim the Venerable, and Proxima the Bloodseeker.
As for the gameplay, players can move through various interconnected worlds such as the forests, marshes, temple ruins, underground dungeon-like areas, and even hidden or secret paths.
One of the big improvements that fans have noticed is the improved combat system. In Mortal Shell II, you will no longer see the traditional stamina bar that restricts attacks, faster melee combat, and, most importantly of all, new ranged weapons and firearms that players can use.

Mortal Shell II Pre-orders
Pre-orders for the game have just gone live on all three supported platforms. You can choose to pre-order either the base standard edition of the game or The Devout Edition. The standard edition of the game costs $49.99, but you don’t get any benefits for pre-ordering the game. However, if you pre-order The Devout Edition of the game for $59.99, you get the following.
- Early access to the official game, i.e., playable from the 17th of August instead of the 20th.
- Skeletal and Obsidian Harbringer Skins
However, if you are a PlayStation 5 gamer, you can choose to pre-order the physical copy of the game. Yes, the physical copy is exclusive to the PlayStation console. Xbox and PC gamers just have to deal with the digital editions of the game.
Mortal Shell II Controller and Multiplayer Support
Multiplayer support for the game as of now does not exist and probably won’t be a thing in the future if we are to go by the previous Mortal Shell game. As for controller support, the game’s store page on Steam supports PlayStation and Xbox controllers for PC gameplay.

Mortal Shell II: Open Beta
As of the 6th of June 2026, the open beta for Mortal Shell II is live for players on PC via Steam. This is a free-to-play open beta. Simply head over to the game’s store page on Steam and click on the green Download button to install and play the open beta.
