Spotify recently announced that it’s bringing yet another AI feature for premium subscribers, which gives users access to conversational AI functionality via text or voice. The update will be available gradually in beta for users in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden, and will be integrated into the Home screen and Now Playing view on iOS and Android devices.
That being said, the new tool allows users can give open-ended prompts like “Play some artists that I haven’t heard before” and then refine the results further with follow-up commands, like asking the app to narrow the selection to a specific artist’s recent music or requesting a more upbeat vibe. Other actions like queuing songs and saving tracks can also be handled through prompts.
The assistant also comes with deeper context for audio tracks, podcasts, and audiobooks, and listeners can ask about album release dates, the inspiration behind specific projects, and even related content that features the creator. Additionally, the AI tool will tap into a user’s listening history to answer personalized questions about music taste and past app usage habits. Part of Spotify’s official announcement reads:
Eligible Premium users will see new ways to talk to Spotify across Home and the Now Playing view on mobile. By typing or speaking directly in the app, you can have a back-and-forth conversation to choose what’s playing, learn about the music you love, revisit your listening history, and go deeper on podcasts and audiobooks, all without leaving Spotify.
