Last week, some Samsung Health users reported seeing a notice when opening the app, asking them to consent to the use of their health data for AI training and modeling. While users had the option to withdraw consent, the notice stated that doing so would lead to the deletion of their health data and that they would be unable to sync it with their Samsung account. Samsung received flak from users for this and has now published an in-app notice clarifying the matter.
Samsung says that the health data collected for AI training and modeling is separate from the data used to provide Samsung Health services, and if the user withdraws consent, the data collected separately for AI development purposes will be deleted and no longer used.
Samsung also assured that the existing health data stored for the use of Samsung Health services will remain unaffected and won’t be deleted. Furthermore, the Korean brand said it’s improving the text in the notice so that the information is presented more clearly and accurately to users.

While Samsung didn’t address concerns about disabling cloud sync if a user withdraws consent, the folks at SamMobile report that cloud sync isn’t disabled even after withdrawing consent to use health data for AI training and modeling.
