By embedding escrow services into the messaging platform where most social commerce transactions begin, Sentinel Escrow aims to simplify the buying and selling experience while reducing the risks associated with online trade.
Sentinel Escrow has introduced SentiBud, a new WhatsApp-based escrow assistant designed to make online buying and selling more secure by protecting both buyers and sellers throughout the transaction process. The solution is aimed at addressing trust challenges that continue to hinder the growth of Nigeria’s rapidly expanding social commerce market.
The platform enables users to complete secure transactions without leaving WhatsApp, eliminating the need to download a separate application. By embedding escrow services into the messaging platform where most social commerce transactions begin, Sentinel Escrow aims to simplify the buying and selling experience while reducing the risks associated with online trade.
According to the company, SentiBud works by holding a buyer’s payment in a secure escrow account until the purchased item has been received and verified. Once the buyer confirms satisfactory delivery, the funds are automatically released to the seller, ensuring protection for both parties throughout the transaction.
The company said the service is designed to address one of the biggest barriers facing online commerce in Nigeria—lack of trust. While buyers are often reluctant to pay in advance for fear of fraud, sellers also face the risk of dispatching goods without guaranteed payment. SentiBud seeks to eliminate this uncertainty by acting as a trusted intermediary.
The transaction process is fully integrated into WhatsApp through a chat-based interface. Buyers and sellers simply initiate a conversation with the SentiBud account, which guides them through the escrow process, making secure trading accessible without requiring additional software or complex registration procedures.
In addition to safeguarding payments, the platform includes features designed to protect sellers from financial losses. If a buyer becomes unreachable during delivery, SentiBud automatically releases the delivery fee from the escrowed funds to compensate the seller for logistics costs, reducing the impact of failed deliveries.
For disputed transactions, the platform allows buyers to report issues directly through WhatsApp. Payments remain securely held in escrow while Sentinel Escrow reviews the case and facilitates a resolution between both parties before any funds are released.
With the launch of SentiBud, Sentinel Escrow aims to strengthen trust in Nigeria’s digital marketplace by providing an accessible, secure payment solution that enables individuals and businesses to transact with greater confidence. The company believes the platform will help accelerate the growth of social commerce by reducing fraud risks and improving confidence in online transactions.
