Well, it was only a matter of time—Spotify recently announced that it’s finally bringing lossless audio support for Premium subscribers, with the feature now rolling out to listeners in over 50 markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan.

With the new feature, users can now stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, which should make for a richer and more detailed listening experience. Lossless is part of a series of recent improvements to the Premium service, joining popular features like AI Playlist, Jam, and DJ. Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP of Subscriptions at Spotify states:
The wait is finally over; we’re so excited lossless sound is rolling out to Premium subscribers… We’ve taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know what’s happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience.

With that said, users will be notified when the feature is available to them. To activate it, users will need to open their app, head on to Settings & Privacy > Media Quality and select Lossless for Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads. Users can also select custom settings for different connections including Low, Normal, High, Very High, and Lossless quality.
Lossless audio will be available on desktop and mobile, as well as other devices that support Spotify Connect, including those from Sony, Bose, and Samsung. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices is expected next month. Spotify does advise users though that Bluetooth might compress audio signals, and that lossless audio files are larger and might take a moment to load.
