This week has been all about Android 17, the next major Android version, codenamed “CinnamonBun.” It started with Google confirming that Android 17 Beta 1 was arriving soon. The company then released the beta, only to unexpectedly pull it shortly after.

The Android 17 Beta 1 is rolling out with build number CP21.260116.011.B1 or CP21.260116.011.A1, depending on the model. This update still includes the January security patch.
Following the quarterly release plan for major Android releases, Google will release the first Android 17 build in Q2, followed by the second and third releases in Q3 and Q4. This means that the changes and features will be divided among these releases.
The first Android 17 Beta introduces several new features and UI tweaks. These include the option to disable At A Glance from the Home Screen, a new gesture to trigger Gemini, a distinct overflow icon below the volume slide to open the other sound volume controls, customize the shortcut for the Google search bar, and a few other changes.
If you own an eligible device, you can opt for the Android beta program to receive Android 17 Beta 1. However, since this is a beta update, only apply for it if you’re aware of its risks. To apply, go to the official beta page and follow the in-page instructions.
Those who are already in the Android 16 QPR beta program and haven’t opted out will also receive the Android 17 update.
Once you apply for the Android 17 Beta 1 update, you won’t be able to revert to the stable release without resetting your phone. This is only possible once Android 17 is released, which is likely to happen in June. So make sure you’re aware of this before applying for the Android 17 Beta update.
