Google just avoided disaster – the company will not be forced to sell its web browser, Chrome. It will have to make some concessions, but the ruling in what is described by Bloomberg as the “biggest US antitrust case in almost three decades” is overall favorable for the Mountain View company. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) accused Google of having an illegal monopoly on the search engine market. DOJ’s suggested remedy for that was to divest Chrome. Some companies even made offers, e.g. Perplexity AI offered $34.5 billion. That’s not happening, ruled the judge. Google will have to share…

It’s all about AI these days, right? At least that is the case for most big tech companies – and Amazon is definitely one of them. The retail giant just introduced Lens Live, a major AI-powered update to its Amazon Lens shopping tool. The idea is simple but powerful: use your camera to find products through visual search, kind of like what Google Lens and Pinterest Lens already do. But Amazon is tying it even closer to shopping by plugging it into its AI assistant, Rufus, for extra insights. Lens Live is already rolling out to tens of millions of iOS…

Apple is holding an event on September 9, during which it will make the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max official. Today a very quick hands-on video has surfaced in China, purportedly depicting a real iPhone 17 Pro Max unit being handled by someone working on the iPhone production line. This is, needless to say, big if true. Here’s the video for your enjoyment (just don’t blink or you’ll miss it): The oft-rumored redesign of the rear is once again confirmed, complete with a huge camera island that extends all across from the…
Sony just shot itself in the foot, and the wound is self-inflicted. The company’s new Xperia 1 VII comes with a Monitor & Control App that allows the phone to act as a remote viewfinder for Sony’s Alpha cameras, one of the key selling points for Sony’s smartphones, especially among Alpha users. Here’s where things get ridiculous. The new app replaces the External Monitor app, which has always been free to use. But with the latest update, Sony is locking the feature behind a Sony Xperia paywall of $4.99 per month. This move feels like corporate suicide. Sony has built…

I’m back from Osaka with plenty to share about the futuristic tech I saw. Yep, from a robotic personal vehicle to iPS-generated organs, this article will give you a taste of what life will be like in 2025.I’m a planner. But when I entered the exhibition grounds at Expo 2025 in Osaka last week, there were a couple of things I hadn’t counted on. First was the heat. I’m used to hot weather, but 100-degree temperatures plus humidity made for a completely new clime; a very sweaty one! Another surprise? The futuristic tech at Expo 2025. I knew there would…
