Micro1, a three-year-old startup that helps AI companies find and manage human contractors for data labeling and training, has raised a $35 million Series A funding round that values the company at $500 million. The round was led by 01 Advisors, a venture capital firm co-founded by Dick Costolo and Adam Bain, the former CEO and COO of Twitter. The startup is one of many companies looking to fill the gap in the data market created by recent changes involving Scale AI. After Meta invested $14 billion in Scale AI and hired its CEO, AI labs, including OpenAI and Google,…
Just as planned, Apple unveiled its much-anticipated iPhone 17 series, and it was an eventful event. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max debuted a fresh new aluminum unibody design – a major departure from the flat look the iPhone had since the iPhone 12 back in 2020. The design features a new camera plateau that spans the top of the aluminum case. It features three 48MP Fusion cameras, including an upgraded new 4x telephoto. The 100mm zoom is a departure from the 120mm on the older series. In a somewhat unprecedented move, Apple gave its base model iPhone…

This year brought a major shake-up in Apple’s smartphone line – if you skipped the Tuesday announcement, check out our summary here. The iPhone Pros have a new look, there’s a new tier called “Air” and the vanilla model got such a major upgrade that many might skip the small Pro and get it instead. The small Galaxy S and Pixel Pro might be sweating right now. Let’s start with the Apple iPhone 17 – what’s the big deal? It finally has a ProMotion display, Apple talk for 120Hz LTPO, and it even has an anti-reflective coating. That’s something that…
The CEO of the largest digital and print publisher in the U.S. has accused Google of being a bad actor for crawling its websites to support the search giant’s AI products. Neil Vogel, CEO of People, Inc. (formerly Dotdash Meredith), a publisher that operates over 40 brands, including People, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, Better Homes & Gardens, Real Simple, Southern Living, Allrecipes, and others, said that Google is not playing fair because it uses the same bot to crawl websites to index them for the Google search engine as it does to support its AI features. “Google has…

Piled up inventory had suppressed smartphone production to an extent, but now TrendForce reports that they are over the hump – smartphone production increased to 300 million units for the second quarter of 2025. This is up 4% from Q1 and up 4.8% from Q2 last year. China ran a subsidy program for mid-range and entry-level devices, which helped clear out inventories. This program is also credited with boosting the production numbers for local smartphone brands. The top two spots on the global market are still occupied by companies outside of China, though. Samsung remains #1 with 58 million units…
This week, OpenAI and Oracle shocked the markets with a surprise $300 billion, five-year agreement, part of a surge of new business that sent the cloud provider’s stock skyrocketing. But maybe the markets shouldn’t have been taken by surprise. The deal is a reminder that, despite Oracle’s legacy status, the company still plays a major role in AI infrastructure. On the OpenAI side, the agreement was more revealing than the lack of details suggest. For one, the startup’s willingness to pay so much for compute provides a measurement of the startup’s appetite — even if it’s unclear where the electricity…
