OpenAI CEO Sam Altman published a blog post on Friday evening responding to both an apparent attack on his home and an in-depth New Yorker profile raising questions about his trustworthiness. Early Friday morning, someone allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s San Francisco home. No one was hurt in the incident, and a suspect was later arrested at OpenAI headquarters, where he was threatening to burn down the building, according to the SF Police Department. While the police have not identified the suspect publicly, Altman noted that the incident came a few days after “an incendiary article” was published…

Introduction Reviewing flagships is always fun and all, but the reality is that most people will never need to get a full-fledged flagship. Plus, midrangers are generally the heart of every lineup. They sell the most numbers by far. It is really hard to get a midranger just right, which is probably why most manufacturers these days are quite timid with their generational upgrades. That said, Samsung takes timid to a whole new level lately. In fact, we might even go as far as to say that the Korean giant is downright stagnant across its 2026 lineup, but that’s a…
“Yeah folks, it’s gonna be harder in the future to ensure OpenClaw still works with Anthropic models,” OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger posted on X early Friday morning, along with a photo of a message from Anthropic saying his account had been suspended over “suspicious” activity. The ban didn’t last long. A few hours later, after the post went viral, Steinberger said his account had been reinstated. Among hundreds of comments — many of them in conspiracy theory land, given that Steinberger is now employed by Anthropic rival OpenAI — was one by an Anthropic engineer. The engineer told the famed…
Back in November, it emerged that Google was working on an Android version of Apple’s NameDrop feature, which lets you quickly share stuff between iPhones by just getting them close together. Then, in early December, a video showed us how it will all work on Android. Now, newly activated UI elements have surfaced, and you can see them in the images below which also reveal this feature’s name: tap to share. That’s pretty self-explanatory and probably a much easier to understand name than NameDrop (which is fine to get you to think about contact sharing, but it can also be…
Medical experts I spoke with balked at the idea of uploading their own health data for an AI model, like Muse Spark, to analyze. “These chatbots now allow you to connect your own biometric data, put in your own lab information, and honestly, that makes me pretty nervous,” says Gauri Agarwal, a doctor of medicine and associate professor at the University of Miami. “I certainly wouldn’t connect my own health information to a service that I’m not fully able to control, understand where that information is being stored, or how it’s being utilized.” She recommends people stick to lower-stakes, more…
SiFive, a company founded in 2015 by the UC Berkeley engineers who created an open source chip design, has landed a $400 million oversubscribed round that values the company at $3.65 billion. This deal is interesting for a bunch of reasons. For one, SiFive’s RISC-V open chip design is based on the RISC processor, not Intel’s x86 or ARM, the two major types of CPUs that currently feed Nvidia’s GPU computer system AI empire. Also, Nvidia was investor in this round, alongside a long list of VCs, private equity, and hedge funds. The round was led by Atreides Management, founded…
