Piled up inventory had suppressed smartphone production to an extent, but now TrendForce reports that they are over the hump – smartphone production increased to 300 million units for the second quarter of 2025. This is up 4% from Q1 and up 4.8% from Q2 last year. China ran a subsidy program for mid-range and entry-level devices, which helped clear out inventories. This program is also credited with boosting the production numbers for local smartphone brands. The top two spots on the global market are still occupied by companies outside of China, though. Investors took a cautious approach to transit software startup Via’s IPO on Friday, with shares opening below the company’s IPO price before recovering at the end of the day slightly higher.  The company, which initially filed confidentially for IPO in July, priced its IPO at $46 per share, raising $492.9 million.
