The Abala multimedia room underscores the Fund’s ongoing commitment to digital inclusion, equal opportunity, and the strengthening of Congo’s digital sovereignty.
Lycée Denis Sassou N’Guesso in Abala, within the Nkéni-Alima department, officially inaugurated a new multimedia room on 15 December 2025, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to digital education in the Republic of Congo. The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, Léon Juste Ibombo; the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Fund for Access to and Universal Service in Electronic Communications (FASUCE), Yves Ickonga; the Administrator Mayor of the urban community of Abala, Albert Itoua; as well as local authorities and education stakeholders.
The multimedia room was developed under the implementation framework of FASUCE and delivered through the Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority (ARPCE), which serves as the Fund’s managing body. Designed to provide a modern, connected learning environment, the facility aligns with national efforts to promote digital inclusion and bridge the technology gap within secondary schools across the country.
With the deployment of 30 multimedia rooms nationwide, FASUCE continues to advance its objective of modernising teaching conditions and improving access to knowledge. In Abala, nearly 90 pupils are expected to benefit directly from the new facility, which will support the development of digital competencies and enhance overall academic performance.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Léon Juste Ibombo highlighted the broader educational impact of the project, noting that Lycée Denis Sassou N’Guesso reflects the government’s vision for youth development and educational progress. He also announced that the institution will welcome its first cohort of baccalaureate graduates from Abala and neighbouring villages in the current academic cycle.
Yves Ickonga, Vice-Chair of FASUCE’s Board, reaffirmed the Fund’s ambition to position Congo among Africa’s top five countries in universal service delivery. He emphasized that achieving this goal requires sustained investment in quality infrastructure and innovation, adding that the multimedia room serves as a powerful tool for promoting equal opportunities and exposing students to global knowledge and innovation.
Representing the student body, final-year pupil ATIPO Sametone expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that the multimedia room would significantly improve learning outcomes. He pledged, on behalf of his peers, a commitment to academic excellence with the aim of achieving a 100 percent pass rate in the 2026 baccalaureate examinations.
The inauguration forms part of a broader national programme to expand digital educational infrastructure in line with Law No. 9 of 25 November 2009, which guarantees equitable access to essential digital services. To date, FASUCE has equipped 211 sites across 203 localities, benefiting approximately 385,000 Congolese citizens. The Abala multimedia room underscores the Fund’s ongoing commitment to digital inclusion, equal opportunity, and the strengthening of Congo’s digital sovereignty.
