Five years after the launch of Grid on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the developers are now wrapping everything up. Yes, Grid 2019 is shutting down for good, and fans are not happy about it.
With Grid 2019 shutting down, fans and players are asking many questions. It’s quite fair for fans to be sad or angry about this decision, given that many players have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours playing the game.
When is Grid 2019 Shutting Down?
EA, the studio behind Grid 2019, has decided to green-light the shutdown of the servers for the game. With this shutdown, players will no longer be able to access the online and multiplayer does. You can, however, continue to play the game offline as long as you have the game.
The servers for Grid 2019 will go offline on the 19th of December 2025. So, if you haven’t played the game with your friends online, now is the time to install the game and go ahead and have some fun races with your friends. This is also a good enough time for you to complete races that you might have pushed for another day and totally forgot about.\\
Do note that you can no longer purchase the game now from any of the storefronts, i.e., Steam, PS4, and Xbox One. EA also delisted the DLCs for the game back in 2023, so the only sensible way to enjoy the game now is by getting hold of physical copies of the game.
If you haven’t completed all 38 achievements in the game, you don’t have to worry. All of these achievements can be obtained or unlocked via the offline mode itself.
Why is Grid 2019 Shutting Down?
EA has been shutting down numerous Codemasters games recently, and it looks like they forgot about Grid 201,9, which is why it’s shutting down in December. With all the recent shutdowns by EA, it looks like either Codemasters is working on a new project and is planning to put all resources and hands to it, or it could simply be that EA might be shutting down Codemasters studios for good. We don’t exactly know what’s happening, but it could be either of these reasons.
It will be sad to see Grid 2019 lose complete support in terms of updates, fixes, and online servers. Thankfully, EA has made the game playable offline, which is a relief, unlike what happened with Ubisoft when they decided to shut down The Crew and make it useless, since it couldn’t be played offline.
What are your thoughts about Grid 2019 shutting down completely? Are you planning to revisit the game and play it online with your friends, or will you just be racing around the tracks in offline mode? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
