Egypt is actively building human capital to support its ICT ambitions, aiming to train one million people in technology specialties by 2030, up from 800,000 this year.
Egypt plans to produce 15 million mobile phones in 2026 and begin exporting devices to international markets, following the manufacture of 10 million units in 2025, according to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat. The 2025 production achieved a 40% local added value, demonstrating the country’s growing capacity in mobile device manufacturing.
As part of its strategy to become a production-led ICT hub, Egypt has attracted 15 international mobile brands to manufacture locally. The country’s digital exports reached $7.4 billion in 2025, with a target of $9 billion in the near future. Egypt also plays a pivotal role in global data infrastructure, hosting 21 international subsea cables that carry 90% of the data traffic between Asia and Europe and serve over 60 countries.
Egypt is actively building human capital to support its ICT ambitions, aiming to train one million people in technology specialties by 2030, up from 800,000 this year. To achieve this, the government has established 27 “WE” schools for applied technology, one in each governorate, and the Egypt University of Informatics, which recently celebrated its first graduating class.
In the area of digital governance, the “Digital Egypt” platform now provides 210 services to more than 10 million registered users. Services include digitized traffic fine payments and the first phase of offerings for Egyptians living abroad.
The country’s international outsourcing sector is also expanding, with over 270 centres providing digital services globally. More than 60,000 jobs were created in this sector over the past three years, and recent agreements with 55 companies are expected to generate an additional 75,000 employment opportunities.
Looking ahead, the ministry will focus on completing the rollout of fibre-optic networks across all governorates and enhancing mobile coverage following the launch of 5G services, positioning Egypt as a leading digital and ICT hub in the region.
The meeting, which discussed these developments, was attended by Major General Mohammed Salah el-Din Qatat, head of the Military Attaches Service.
