Just some months after the discontinuation of its standalone Messenger app for computers, it looks like Facebook is also planning on officially retiring the Messenger web app. A statement on Facebook’s official support page reads:
Starting April 2026, messenger.com will no longer be available for messaging. The Messenger desktop app is also no longer available. You can use facebook.com/messages to continue messaging on web.
With the desktop app no longer being available for some time now, users at the moment can access their Messenger inboxes by way of messenger.com, although this will soon be shut down in April 2026. After this, users will now automatically be redirected to facebook.com/messages via their web browser.
Additionally, folks who use use Messenger without a Facebook account will be able to continue their conversations on the Messenger mobile app. Other features like chat history restoration via PIN codes will continue to work as well.
