The initiative aims to lower data costs, enhance digital sovereignty, and position Gabon as a leading digital hub in Africa.
The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation has convened a strategic meeting with Moov Africa Gabon Telecom , Airtel Gabon , the Société de Patrimoine des Infrastructures Numériques (SPIN) , and the DGDRN to drive forward the country’s fiber optic expansion plans.
The discussions focused on the establishment of a joint entity dedicated to fiber development, with priorities including extending the national backbone by 1,800 kilometers, sharing infrastructure to reduce costs, and setting up a transparent governance framework. The partners also explored innovative financing models that will involve greater private sector participation while easing the financial burden on the state.
The initiative aims to lower data costs, enhance digital sovereignty, and position Gabon as a leading digital hub in Africa. With strong backing from President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the project reflects the government’s broader vision to build a modern, competitive, and fully connected nation.
