Google recently announced that it’s now rolling out Canvas in AI mode for users in the United States, which now comes with added support for writing and coding. Google says that this makes it easier for users to create and draft documents, and even design custom tools when using Search. With that in mind, getting started is pretty easy—here’s a quick how-to on using Canvas in AI mode.
- Open AI Mode and locate the tool menu by clicking the plus (+) icon. From the list of available options, select Canvas
- Use the prompt bar to describe the specific tool or dashboard you want to create, explaining the features, data points, or functions you need the prototype to handle.
- The Canvas side panel will then build a working version of your request, and will integrate real-time data from the web and Google’s Knowledge Graph.
- Users can interact with the live prototype in the side panel to ensure the buttons, data visualizations, and logic are functioning as intended.
- Users can further toggle the view to inspect the underlying code, and even use conversational follow-ups to request changes, add new features, or tweak the design.
