Hormuud Telecom Somalia Inc. has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GIZ to support the development of an inclusive digital economy across the East African region.
The partnership is aligned with the East African Community’s (EAC) digital transformation agenda, with a strong focus on advancing cross-border payment systems and supporting the creation of bankable digital initiatives that can scale across member states.
Through the collaboration, GIZ Tanzania and the East African Community will also work alongside Hormuud Telecom to strengthen digital and AI skills development aimed at improving youth employability across the region.
In addition, the MoU covers broader development priorities, including the advancement of climate finance and nature-based solutions, as well as regulatory advisory support designed to improve access for East African digital initiatives into European markets.
The agreement reflects growing cooperation between telecom operators and development partners to accelerate digital inclusion, cross-border connectivity, and sustainable economic growth across East Africa.
