The Ministère de la Transition Numérique et de la Digitalisation of Ivory Coast is advancing international digital cooperation following a high-level engagement with a delegation from the US Embassy. The discussions focused on concrete initiatives aimed at shaping the country’s digital future.
A key topic was the potential arrival of Starlink satellite services in Côte d’Ivoire, which is expected to improve connectivity in rural areas and accelerate digital inclusion across the nation. The use of satellite technology is seen as a major step toward bridging the digital divide.
The meeting also highlighted progress in aviation and international connectivity, with Côte d’Ivoire achieving Category 1 aviation security. This opens the possibility for Air Côte d’Ivoire to operate direct flights to the United States, strengthening both travel and business links.
Additionally, the delegation explored plans for the Digital City project, a strategic initiative designed to position Côte d’Ivoire as a leading tech hub in West Africa. The project aims to create thousands of technology-related jobs for the youth, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
Minister Djibril Ouattara emphasized the importance of connectivity for development, noting, “We have a real connectivity problem in rural areas. Thanks to satellite technology, we could move much faster.” This initiative reflects the country’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to accelerate digital transformation and inclusive growth.
