The inauguration of the K-Elec Factory is expected to strengthen Kenya’s integrated manufacturing base, promote technology transfer, and support the country’s broader ambitions of industrial growth and economic transformation.
The K-Elec Factory was officially launched on Thursday at the Sarin Industrial Park in Syokimau, along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, marking a major milestone for Kenya’s growing device-assembly and manufacturing ecosystem. The event was attended by senior government officials, investors, and key industry partners.
The launch ceremony was led by Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui alongside Trade Cabinet Secretary Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, as well as their counterparts Abubakar Hassan (Investment) and Dr. Belio Kipsang (Immigration and Citizen Services). Other notable attendees included the Korean Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Kang Hyung-Shik, KenInvest CEO John Mwenda, DL Group Chairman Dr. David Langat, and K-Elec CEO Nam Kyo Yung, among other senior executives and stakeholders.
The K-Elec Factory, powered by Korean technology, assembles fridges and television sets and is expanding into beauty products. CS Kinyanjui praised the company for its contribution to Kenya’s industrial growth, emphasizing that Kenya remains a preferred destination for investors. He assured continued government support to attract investments that transform the economy and create jobs.
Eng. Tanui highlighted that the launch coincides with the rapid acceleration of Kenya’s device-assembly ecosystem, which has the capacity to produce over 8 million smartphones annually. He noted that the new factory enhances Kenya’s position as a competitive manufacturing hub in East Africa, while creating quality employment, boosting local value addition, and advancing the “Buy Kenya, Build Kenya” agenda.
