The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged ongoing quality of service challenges affecting telecommunications users in Abuja, noting that the issues have negatively impacted subscribers’ overall service experience. The Commission explained that the disruptions are largely linked to interruptions in diesel supply, which have affected IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation company responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations in the affected areas.
According to the NCC, the diesel supply disruption resulted from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), leading to outages across critical telecommunications infrastructure in the federal capital. In response, the Commission said it is working closely with major stakeholders and licensed operators to address the situation and restore service stability, while emphasizing the critical role of reliable power supply in ensuring optimal telecommunications services.
The NCC further stated that it is actively engaging relevant parties to explore sustainable solutions and remove diesel supply bottlenecks impacting network operations. The Commission urged all stakeholders to collaborate swiftly to resolve the challenges and prevent further service disruptions, reaffirming its commitment to creating an enabling environment for the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
Assuring subscribers of its continued oversight, the NCC said it remains dedicated to managing the situation effectively and will keep the public informed of progress toward restoring full telecommunications services in Abuja. The Commission also thanked subscribers for their patience and understanding, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality and reliable telecommunications services nationwide.
