If you’re one of many folks who still use Microsoft Lens to scan and take decent photos of documents, then it looks like you’ll have to switch to a different app soon. For those unaware, Microsoft announced a while back that it was in the process of discontinuing the app soon, which will officially be retired on February 9, 2026. A note on Microsoft’s official support page reads:
The Microsoft Lens app will be retired from iOS and Android devices starting January 9, 2026, and will no longer be supported after February 9. You can continue to scan documents in the app until March 9, 2026. After that, you will not be able to create new scans, but you will still be able to access your previous scans if the app remains installed on your device.
Microsoft Lens will be removed from the Apple App store and Google Play Store on February 9, 2026.
Microsoft Lens was originally launched as “Office Lens” for Windows Phone devices back in 2014, and was subsequently brought over to Android and iOS devices. At the moment, Microsoft suggests using OneDrive as an alternative to scan documents, although it does not feature local file saving.
