A while back, Microsoft confirmed that its Lens app will be leaving app stores on February 9th, meaning that users on mobile platforms such as iOS and Android will no longer be able to download the app (via legal means, at least) for their smartphones.
First introduced as “Office Lens” for Windows Phone devices back in 2014, the app was subsequently brought over to Android and iOS devices and allowed users to use their smartphone’s camera to turn physical documents into digital PDF copies. For those unaware, Microsoft previously confirmed that it was in the process of discontinuing the app; a note on Microsoft’s official support page reads:
The Microsoft Lens app will be retired from iOS and Android devices starting January 9, 2026, and will no longer be supported after February 9. You can continue to scan documents in the app until March 9, 2026. After that, you will not be able to create new scans, but you will still be able to access your previous scans if the app remains installed on your device.
Microsoft Lens will be removed from the Apple App store and Google Play Store on February 9, 2026.
Microsoft now suggests using OneDrive as an alternative to scan documents, although it does not feature local file saving.
