While Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key integration has mostly been designed with cars in mind, the company recently unveiled that it’s been working with Aliro to develop its new Digital Home Key feature. Aliro is a smart lock access protocol which will let Galaxy users lock and unlock their smart door locks. Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of Digital Wallet Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung comments:
As we continue to evolve Samsung Wallet, delivering trusted mobile experiences remains at the core of our innovation. Through close collaboration with our partners and in alignment with the Aliro standard, Digital Home Key brings the same level of security and ease Samsung Galaxy users expect from Samsung Wallet to their homes.
The new feature will work with select smart door lock models, and will need to be setup through Samsung SmartThings using Matter. Once a user adds a Digital Home Key to Samsung Wallet, they’ll be able to use their phone’s NFC wireless function to lock and unlock their home with a simple tap. Samsung adds that it’s working with several smart lock brands including Aqara, Nuki, Schlage and Xthings.
There’s support for remote access via Samsung Find should a user misplace their device, along with additional biometric and PIN authentication for a more secure user experience. Digital Home Key begins its rollout this March for select regions.
