The ad-free era of Threads is officially over. Meta confirmed that ads are rolling out to all global users starting next week, following a year of testing. With 400 million monthly active users, the platform is ready to join Facebook and Instagram in Meta’s advertising machine.
Meta announced the Threads ads rollout in a blog post. The company’s using familiar image, video, and carousel formats powered by the same AI personalization that tracks you across Facebook and Instagram. The rollout will be gradual, starting with low ad volume and ramping up over the coming months. Meta says ads will blend seamlessly into your feed like organic posts.
How advertisers can use Threads ads
Advertisers can add Threads via a simple Ads Manager checkbox for Advantage+ or manual campaigns. Third-party verification now covers the platform too. This builds on 2025 tests that started in the US and Japan before expanding to global advertisers.
Threads stayed ad-free since its 2023 launch as an Instagram spinoff. The somewhat low-key start avoids the backlash that hit X when it flooded feeds with ads early on. Your feed will show tailored ads based on what Meta knows about you. If you post about fitness, expect gym and nutrition brands. Unfortunately, there’s no skippable video overload yet.
However, the good news is that you can manage ad settings if they get annoying. For businesses, it’s easy integration across Meta’s platforms. Meta boasts that Carousel and catalog ads can reach all 400 million users. Zuckerberg has predicted Threads will hit 1 billion users, positioning it as Meta’s next major revenue driver alongside Facebook and Instagram.
