WhatsApp recently announced that it’s bringing a new feature to users by way of “Group Message History,” which allows group members and admins to send recent messages to newly-added members to get them up to speed within the chat. WhatsApp says that Group Message History has been a highly-requested feature from users, stating:
One of our most requested features, it’s another example of how WhatsApp is leading the way in group messaging, no matter your device.
WhatsApp adds that Group Message History supports end-to-end encryption like all other personal messages for enhanced user privacy, and reduces the need for repetitive screenshots and forwarding messages. When a new user is added to a group chat, existing users will have an option to send up to a hundred recent messages to them. Additionally, the whole group will be able to see which messages have been shared, including timestamps and sender info.
As for availability, the new feature has started rolling out and will gradually arrive for more users worldwide.
