Following the roll-out of digital key support for select Porsche vehicles a while back, Samsung recently announced that it’s also added Digital Key support for a number of Toyota models via Samsung Wallet, which will arrive in an update this January. Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of Digital Wallet Team at Samsung states:
Samsung Wallet is designed to remove friction from daily life through the combination of seamless convenience and uncompromising security… By bringing Digital Key support to Toyota vehicles, starting with the 2026 Toyota RAV4, we’re extending those benefits to more people, so that Galaxy users can get on the road faster, safer and more easily.
For those unfamiliar with the feature, Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key uses a combination of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which allows drivers to use their Samsung phone to lock, unlock, lock and even start their vehicles remotely. In this case, the feature is initially rolling out for the 2026 Toyota RAV4, with more models to follow in the future.
Samsung adds that Digital Keys are securely stored directly on the device with additional protection from Samsung’s Knox security system as well as biometrics and PIN security. Should a user lose their phone with their saved digital keys, they can then remotely lock or delete the key via Samsung’s Find service.
The new feature will begin rolling out this month for users in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with a planned expansion in Europe soon.
