With a majority of online content mostly centred around video these days, it’s not too surprising to see major platforms like YouTube double-down on expanding its reach towards viewers and creators alike. That said, the platform recently unveiled its roadmap for 2026, with a number of plans in the works.
For one, YouTube is introducing upgrades to the viewer experience and parental safety—YouTube TV will soon launch fully customizable “multiview” features and specialized plans for content such as sports and news. Meanwhile, new parental controls will allow families to manage digital habits more strictly, including the ability to completely pause “Shorts” for kids and teens, and a more simplified means to switch accounts to ensure age-appropriate content.
Interestingly, the platform will continue developing expanded shopping features to allow viewers to purchase products directly within the app while watching creator recommendations. New tools for brand partnerships will also help creators transform their back catalogs into recurring revenue streams for more versatile career opportunities.
YouTube adds that it’s further working on integrating AI features into its services, although it does promise to implementing strict safeguards. For example, users will get access to features that will allow them to create content using their own AI likeness or generate games via text prompts; in a bid to combat “AI slop” and deepfakes, the platform is expanding its labeling systems and developing likeness-management tools based on its Content ID technology.
