Due to the exclusive nature of AirDrop, sharing files between Android phones and iPhones has always been inconvenient. Late last year, Google introduced a way to share files with iPhones through an updated Quick Share. However, at the moment, this AirDrop-compatible Quick Share is limited to the Pixel 10 Series. That said, this was just the beginning, and many of us expected the feature to eventually roll out to more devices.
Earlier this year, Google also promised to bring the updated Quick Share to older Pixel devices. Now, a Google official has confirmed that the AirDrop support will be expanded to all Android devices that support Quick Share, which will make cross platform file sharing much more convenient.
Eric Kay, Vice President of Engineering for Android, confirmed that AirDrop interoperability will be available to all Android phones. This information was reported by Android Authority.
AirDrop support will extend to more phones later this year. Expect other Pixel devices to get this feature before expanding to non-Pixel devices. Many devices will receive the AirDrop sharing capability on Quick Share by this year.
AirDrop sharing not only works with iPhones but also with iPads and MacBooks. Google is collaborating with partners across the Android ecosystem to bring AirDrop support to more devices soon.
This AirDrop support will undoubtedly simplify life for many users, especially those who own both Android and Apple devices. Users will no longer need to rely on third-party sharing platforms to share files between Apple and Android devices.
