While YouTube’s “Premium Lite” subscription tier lacks some features when compared to the standard subscription plan, it does make for a more practical option especially for users who don’t really want to spend too much on a monthly streaming service. That said, YouTube recently announced that it’s bringing new features for Premium Lite subscribers.
More specifically, users on YouTube’s Premium Lite plan will now get access to Background Play and support for video downloads, which were previoulsy only available for the standard Premium subscription plan. As per YouTube’s official announcement:
Last year, we expanded our Premium Lite pilot to more markets and heard feedback about wanting these additional features included in the service. We’re excited for today’s update and to continue testing and building products that best meet our users’ needs.
The new features begin rolling out for users starting today, and YouTube says that more subscribers will be able to watch “most” videos without ads, with support for offline and background play. That being said, the standard subscription tier does come with other perks such as access to music content via YouTube Music Premium.
