Garmin recently announced that it’s finally brought over WhatsApp messaging support for its watches via a dedicated app, giving users an easier way to stay in touch when on the go. The app is available for several watches including select Fenix, Forerunner, Venu and Vívoactive models.
The app also brings essential WhatsApp functionality for users, allowing them to browse recent conversations, view up to ten messages of chat history directly on their wrist, and respond using the watch’s built-in keyboard. The app also supports emojis and message reactions in chat threads and real-time alerts for incoming calls, giving users pretty much the “standard” WhatsApp experience that’s available on a smartwatch.
Additionally, Privacy remains a major component of the app, and all personal messages and calls will be protected by WhatsApp’s standard end-to-end encryption. Susan Lyman, Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing at Garmin comments:
Collaborating with WhatsApp underscores the strength and momentum of the Garmin Connect IQ ecosystem. By bringing a global messaging brand like WhatsApp to select Garmin smartwatches, we’re giving customers another meaningful way to stay connected—whether they’re training, exploring or simply on the move.
