Meta recently announced that it’s bringing major changes to account management with its new “Meta Account” hub, which is designed to manage apps and devices in one place. The company says that the rollout will occur gradually over the next year, and existing Accounts Centers will automatically update to the new interface.
Meta says that the change is intended to streamline the login process while keeping users secure. As such, users now have the option to set up a single password across all Meta services, with the option of using passkeys and biometric logins via fingerprint or facial recognition on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. The new login methods will feature by 24/7 monitoring and a Security Checkup tool to help users manage multi-factor authentication more effectively.
While Meta Account supports Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and Meta Quest headsets, WhatsApp will continue to remain optional. Additionally, users will be able to maintain separate Meta Accounts for different profiles, such as keeping a Facebook account independent from an Instagram account. App-specific privacy settings, such as who can see a Facebook post or tag a user on Instagram, will continue to function exclusively within the respective apps.
For families, Meta Account will feature a simplified Family Center dashboard, and parents will be able to manage supervised accounts for teens across Instagram, Facebook, and Horizon from a single location, removing the need to switch between different account views.
Users will receive notifications as their specific accounts transition, although Meta says that the day-to-day experience of using Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger will remain unchanged.
