The Pixel 10 WhatsApp satellite feature changes how we think about staying connected. Google has turned what used to be a niche emergency tool into something you can actually use every day. Instead of relying only on weak cellular networks, Pixel 10 owners can make WhatsApp voice and video calls even when completely off the grid.
Google’s latest lineup includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Alongside support for Bluetooth 6, the big surprise is this WhatsApp integration. Until now, satellite features on phones were limited to emergency SOS texts. Apple’s newer iPhones already support satellite texting, but that service only covers basic messages. With the Pixel 10, you can go beyond texts and actually place calls. For hikers, travelers, or anyone in rural areas, it’s a massive advantage.
This works through a partnership between Google, WhatsApp, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Satellite platform. The tech allows both voice and video calls to go through satellites, keeping them reliable even far away from cell towers. It also shows WhatsApp’s ambition to stay ahead of competitors by offering something unique to its billions of users, and perhaps gaining more traction in the US.
Right now, the Pixel 10 series has this feature exclusively. That exclusivity gives Google a rare competitive advantage in a crowded smartphone market. Of course, the service will depend on participating carriers and could include extra fees. But the fact that you can now call from the top of a mountain or the middle of a desert is impressive on its own.
