Ethiopia and Mozambique have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening cooperation in digital transformation, with particular emphasis on digital identity systems and the expansion of public digital infrastructure.
The agreement was signed in Addis Ababa on April 27 between Ethiopia’s FaydaVerse Digital Solutions Enterprise and Mozambique’s Agency for Digital Transformation and Innovation (ATDI, IP).
The MoU establishes a collaborative framework to support the development of secure and interoperable digital identity ecosystems, alongside broader efforts to modernise public digital services in both countries. It also promotes institutional cooperation through knowledge exchange, skills development, and the deployment of innovative digital infrastructure solutions.
Priority areas outlined in the agreement include the rollout of national digital identity and authentication platforms, pilot initiatives for public sector digital infrastructure, enhanced interoperability between government systems, and joint development of cybersecurity frameworks. The partnership also seeks to build technical capacity within Mozambique through targeted training programmes for specialists.
A further objective of the agreement is to advance technological sovereignty by reducing dependence on external technology providers while encouraging locally driven innovation in digital governance.
