Last week, we asked you about which announcements coming out of Google I/O had you buzzing with excitement – in general, but also specifically for the upcoming Android 17 update. Starting with the top-level question, Android 17 was by far the best thing demoed at I/O 2026. Not surprising, given our audience. But the ranking of the other options did surprise us – barely anyone cared about Wear OS 7. The smartwatches lost to Gemini Intelligence and Android Auto (which were essentially tied) and even the new Googlebook design (the Android-powered laptops) sparked more interest. Some expressed hope that Googlebooks…
The YouTube-to-prestige-horror pipeline is looking very strong this weekend. Taking the number one spot at the box office is “Backrooms,” a feature film expansion of Kane Parsons’ series of YouTube videos featuring eerie found footage of a mysterious office space (drawn from a 4chan thread) that defies physics. Directed by Parsons, “Backrooms” made $38 million on Friday, and is expected to bring in a total of $80 million to $90 million at the domestic box office over this weekend alone. For indie studio A24, that’s its biggest opening by far — the previous record was held by “Civil War,” which…

The Samsung Galaxy A57 quickly became one of the popular mid-range go-to options. However, if you aren’t relying on a strict budget and you are looking for a better Samsung experience, the Galaxy S25 FE from last year is somewhat close budget-wise, and it’s worth considering. While the Galaxy A57 sits comfortably in the mid-range bracket, the Galaxy S25 FE crosses the border toward the upper mid-range segment with some flagship-level features. In some markets, the price difference is smaller than you might expect, making the S25 FE a great deal in comparison, but others will have to…
SoftBank Group announced today that it plans to spend up to €75 billion (around $87 billion) to expand data center capacity in France. The goal, the firm said, is to develop and operate up to 5 gigawatts of additional data center capacity. The first phase of the plan involves building data centers in Dunkirk (Loon-Plage), Bosquel, and Bouchain to deliver 3.1 gigawatts of capacity to the Hauts-de-France region by 2031. SoftBank, which is both an investor in and customer of OpenAI, says this will be its largest AI infrastructure investment in Europe. In a statement, French economic minister Roland Lescure described…

It took a while, but the Samsung Galaxy A57 is finally up on Amazon – and it kicks things off with a $60 discount. That’s a bit less than the A37 discount, but it’s enough to shift the balance of power between the two. The A37 is the cheaper model and if you can live with 6GB of RAM and 128GB non-expandable storage, then yes, it is meaningfully cheaper. But the 256GB models of the A37 and A57 are currently only $10 apart. The Galaxy A57 is a slimmer (6.9mm vs. 7.4mm) and lighter (179g vs. 196g) phone…

Meta is developing an AI-powered pendant that it plans to start testing in the next year, according to a memo viewed by The Information. This device would presumably build on the work of Limitless, an AI device startup that Meta acquired at the end of 2025. The startup made an AI pendant that users could attach to their shirt or wear as a necklace to record their conversations. At the time, Meta said the acquisition would allow it to “accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables.” Earlier AI wearables have failed to catch on with consumers — perhaps due to…
