Focusing on metals like niobium and tantalum won’t have the massive climate benefit that cleaner steel would, but it could generate the cash the company needs to keep going. It’s a strategy I’m noticing more as these tough industries like steel look ever tougher to succeed in with limited federal support in the US. Boston Metal’s molten oxide electrolysis technology uses electricity to produce metals. I covered the startup last year, when it announced a major milestone for its steel business, running its pilot reactor in Massachusetts and producing a literal ton of material. Now the company’s focus has shifted,…
The newly introduced AI system will be powered by machine learning algorithms designed to enhance the identification of high-risk shipments and improve targeting accuracy in the fight against customs fraud. The Central Committee for Judicial Risk Action under the Tunisian Customs Authority has approved the integration of an artificial intelligence-based unit into the country’s National Judicial Selective System. The decision was made during a meeting held at the headquarters of the General Administration of Customs. The committee said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise Tunisia’s customs operations and strengthen its risk management capabilities. The newly introduced AI…

That’s where these bedtime gadgets that actually help kids sleep come in.As a parent and tech editor, I’ve tested a lot of sleep-friendly gadgets in my near-decade of raising small children. And here’s the truth: some genuinely help kids settle faster… and others just make bedtime worse.AI companion toys, I’m looking at…

Yesterday, Xiaomi announced the 17 Max, and today there’s already a full teardown / disassembly video on YouTube showing all of its insides, courtesy of the Chinese channel WekiHome. While the video is in Chinese, we find YouTube’s English language captions very good, so make sure you turn them on if you don’t speak Chinese. The Xiaomi 17 Max is a rather surprising arrival, since it’s the first Max in the company’s flagship line. The Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max all came out in China in September, followed by the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in December.…
