Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has arrived in Rwanda for a visit focused on the country’s achievements in health, agriculture, and digital public infrastructure, highlighting Rwanda’s growing role as a model for innovation-driven development in Africa.
During the visit, Gates said he is looking forward to engaging with government officials, institutions, and development partners to better understand the progress Rwanda has made across key sectors. His visit comes as the country continues to invest in digital technologies, healthcare systems, and agricultural transformation to improve service delivery and economic growth.
Gates praised Rwanda’s health sector achievements, describing the country’s progress over the past 25 years as one of Africa’s most remarkable health transformations. He noted that Rwanda has demonstrated what can be achieved when governments not only invest in life-saving technologies but also ensure those innovations reach the people who need them most.
He also highlighted the long-standing partnership between the Gates Foundation and Rwanda, noting that for more than two decades the foundation has worked alongside Rwanda and other African countries to strengthen healthcare systems and expand access to critical technologies and services.
As part of his visit, Gates said he looks forward to further discussions and learning from the people and institutions driving innovation and development across the continent, reaffirming the Gates Foundation’s continued interest in supporting Africa’s long-term progress in health, agriculture, and digital transformation.
