OneKhusa has announced a new partnership with the Blantyre City Council, becoming the council’s official payment partner in a move aimed at accelerating the digitisation of municipal revenue collection.
Through this collaboration, residents and businesses in Blantyre will be able to pay city rates online, removing the need for physical visits to payment offices. The system is designed to enable faster, more secure transactions that can be completed from any device, improving convenience and accessibility for users.
The initiative introduces instant payment confirmation and automated reconciliation, supported by what OneKhusa describes as Malawi’s first open payment API. This infrastructure is expected to enhance transparency and efficiency in the management of municipal finances.
According to OneKhusa, the partnership reflects a broader push toward building digital public infrastructure that simplifies government payments and improves service delivery. The company noted that this development marks an early step in a wider rollout of digital solutions for public sector institutions.
The collaboration with Blantyre City Council is positioned as part of ongoing efforts to modernize civic services in Malawi, reduce queues at payment centers, and provide residents with more efficient, technology-driven ways to engage with local government services.
