Secrétariat Exécutif des TIC Burundi has announced the official launch of Burundi’s instant payment system, “BurundiPay,” marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital financial transformation.
The system was launched in collaboration with Banki Nkuru and with funding support from PAFEN Burundi. BurundiPay is designed to enable secure, interoperable, and accessible real-time payments across the country’s financial ecosystem.
With this development, Burundi becomes the 22nd country in Africa to implement an instant payment system, reflecting a growing continental shift toward faster and more inclusive digital payment infrastructure.
Authorities noted that the platform is expected to enhance financial inclusion, improve transaction efficiency, and support broader economic activity by enabling individuals and businesses to transfer funds instantly and securely.
