Equatorial Guinea’s state-owned telecommunications operator GETESA has signed a collaboration agreement with Huawei to optimise the country’s national telecommunications network as part of efforts to improve connectivity and accelerate digital transformation.
The agreement was signed on July 9 during a ceremony at the State Headquarters in Malabo, presided over by Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue. The event was also attended by the Administrative Coordination Officer and other members of the government.
According to the government, the partnership marks the beginning of a new phase for GETESA through a strategic alliance with Huawei. Over the next six months, the two organisations will implement a comprehensive programme to optimise network infrastructure and significantly improve the quality of voice and data services delivered to citizens, businesses and public institutions.
The first phase of the project will focus on upgrading existing telecommunications infrastructure, expanding network capacity, increasing data transmission speeds, improving communication stability and enhancing service quality standards across the country.
The government said the initiative is expected to provide families, students, businesses and public institutions with faster, more stable, efficient and reliable telecommunications services regardless of their location.
Officials described digital transformation as a key pillar of Equatorial Guinea’s economic diversification strategy, supporting job creation, business development, investment attraction and innovation. They said the partnership between GETESA and Huawei represents an important step towards building a modern, secure and intelligent telecommunications infrastructure capable of meeting growing connectivity demands and supporting the country’s long-term digital transformation agenda.
