Insta360 has officially entered the handheld gimbal camera segment with the launch of its new flagship, the Luna Ultra. Co-engineered with Leica, the vlogging-focused camera features a dual-camera setup, which is similar to DJI’s upcoming Osmo Pocket 4P.
It sports a primary 1-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 20mm equivalent focal length. There’s also a telephoto camera that offers an f/2.0 aperture and a 60mm equivalent focal length with up to 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and 12x digital zoom.
One of the Luna Ultra’s standout features is its detachable 2-inch touchscreen display. The screen can be used as a remote monitor and controller, allowing users to frame shots and record from up to 20 meters away in HD resolution. It can also be switched between portrait and landscape orientations.
The pocket gimbal camera gets a 1,550mAh battery, which Insta360 claims can provide up to four hours of use and it also supports fast charging. As expected from a gimbal camera, the Luna Ultra also features 3-axis mechanical stabilization with features such as Deep Track 5.0 for subject tracking.

Insta360 says the Luna Ultra can record videos in up to 8K resolution at 30fps, capture 4K footage at up to 120fps, and shoot slow-motion videos at up to 240fps in 4K. It can also capture photos at up to 37MP in UltraPhoto mode and up to 200MP resolution panorama shots.
The Luna Ultra supports 10-bit video recording and offers Dolby Vision and I-Log. It comes with 47GB of built-in storage and supports microSD cards of up to 1TB. Audio duties are handled by a four-microphone array.

The Insta360 Luna Ultra is available in Cosmic Black and Stellar White finishes, with the latter weighing 235g. Connectivity options include a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 6 on the main camera unit, and Wi-Fi 4 on the detachable display.
The camera is priced at $769.99 and is available through Insta360’s official online store, Amazon, and other online retailers.
