Fans of the PlayStation 5 and 5 Pro are always excited about the PlayStation exclusive titles. Well, popular developer Insomniac Games has decided to bring its upcoming superhero-related game, Marvel’s Wolverine, only to the PlayStation platform.
If you’ve been someone who picked up a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Pro recently because of GTA VI but also want to look out for other games that you could play while you wait for it, here’s everything that you need to know about Marvel’s Wolverine.
The developers of the game have confirmed that this new Wolverine game will be an original, unchanged story and will not be a lazy adaptation from the movie. The game has been set on Earth 1048 – the alternative Earth as seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date and Announcement
The world got a first look at the game during the PlayStation Showcase that took place in 2021. During this time, the game was in its early stages of development and had no release date. A small teaser accompanied the announcement. You can check out the 44-second teaser on YouTube.
It was during this year’s PlayStation State of Play event that we got more details about the game, including the release date. Marvel’s Wolverine is now set for release on the 15th of September 2026.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Developer and Publisher
Insomniac Games is the team behind the development of Marvel’s Wolverine. This is the same development studio that has developed various other games such as
As the publishing team is Sony Interactive Entertainment, you will know that a lot of these games are generally exclusive to the PlayStation platform, except for a few titles that are available just on PC, like Sunset Overdrive, or have an official port of the PlayStation game on PC.
Marvel’s Wolverine: The Story
At a time when Logan decided that he was done being Wolverine, the past began to catch up to him. Logan is now ready to rejoin his task force team, Team X, as Wolverine. He has to help his task force as Bolivar Trask is back again, and this time he is kidnapping the mutants. It’s Wolverine’s job to find and rescue them. In this rescue mission, Wolverine teams up with different mutants from around the world, such as Japan, Canada, and the Marvel Island of Madripoor.
Playing as Wolverine, you will be tasked with taking down enemies with the utmost brutality and making use of the super-sharp claws to unleash your attacks smoothly and quickly. The game has various enemies for you to take down, and you must use your skills, moves, and weapons to defeat them all and save the mutants.
Marvel’s Wolverine Supported Platforms
The game will be available only on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony has no intention of bringing the game to the older PlayStation 4 generation. As for the Xbox suite of consoles, Sony has no plans to release them for the platform, and the same goes for the Nintendo Switch and PC. Yes, PC gamers won’t be getting Marvel’s Wolverine.
Sony intends to release the games that it has published for these new-generation consoles. Considering the increase in price for the 5-year-old PS5 and the recently launched PS5 Pro, Sony wants to ensure that the gamers who purchased their PS5 consoles get their money’s worth by making games exclusive to the new console.
Now, Sony did release a few of its PlayStation 5 exclusive titles for PC a few years ago; the same cannot be said for Marvel’s Wolverine. Now, whether Sony has plans to push a delayed release for Marvel’s Wolverine for PC is a decision that lies with them. While there have been reports of Sony launching an exclusive launcher on PC for their library of games, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Pricing, Pre-orders, and Game Editions
Marvel’s Wolverine will be available in two game editions- the standard or base edition and a digital deluxe edition. Both editions are currently available for pre-order via Sony’’s online PlayStation Store.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Standard Edition
The standard edition of the game can be pre-ordered for $69.99. The base edition has nothing to offer apart from the base game.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Digital Deluxe Edition
The Digital Deluxe Edition will cost you $79.99 and will give you the following items:
- Five exclusive suits
- Five exclusive claws
- Four technique points
- Four PlayStation avatars
- Classic Brown Suit (early unlock)
- Reflective Claws (early unlock)
Now, if you have just pre-ordered the standard edition of the game and have decided you are better off buying the Digital Deluxe Edition, you can use the special Digital Deluxe Upgrade for $10.00. With this little upgrade pack, you get everything that is available in the Digital Deluxe Edition.

There is no discount or offer if you first buy the standard edition and then purchase the final deluxe upgrade. The price is the same for the Digital Deluxe edition.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Online and Multiplayer Support
The game will be a standalone single-player game with no multiplayer game modes. This is the same as the previous Spider-Man games released a few years back. So, once you complete the game 100%, there is nothing more for you to play.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Skipping The PS4
Sony has, in its mind, decided not to bring the game to the PS4 generation of consoles simply because the console has now lost software support and updates, and the game may not run the way the developers intended it for you to enjoy.
The game requires a quick, high-speed SSD to run smoothly and powerful graphics to render greater details, better texture quality, lighting, and even the character models. Moreover, the PS5 has support for the new DualSense controller, which has adaptive triggers, meaning you can be fully immersed in the combat in Marvel’s Wolverine.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Will There Be a Physical Copy?
In a time when Sony has stated that games launching in 2028 and beyond will no longer have physical copies, Insomniac Games has revealed that physical copies will include a Blu-ray disc. You can pre-order the physical copies of the game from select retailers that generally sell physical copies of video games. You can also choose to buy the physical copy of the standard edition and then later upgrade it digitally via the digital deluxe update pack.
