Samsung’s US operations have been headquartered in New Jersey for over 40 years – and the majority of that time was spent in Ridgefield Park. Then in 2024, the company announced that it will move to Englewood Cliffs, also in New Jersey. But now Samsung is moving again and is leaving the state altogether.
According to the Korea Times, Samsung will relocate its headquarters to Plano, Texas. Plano is just north of Dallas and is around 200 miles away from Taylor.
Samsung has built several massive semiconductor fabs in Taylor and wants to build more. In 2024, it received a $6.6 billion subsidy to expand its foundry operations in Texas.
Apple has been looking to reduce its dependence on TSMC and the government has been pressuring companies to onshore manufacturing. So Apple has been looking into contracting Intel and Samsung fabs – Apple executives even toured Samsung’s Texas foundry recently.

“We are preparing for the relocation with the goal of completing the move within this year. After a thorough review, we will finalize plans for headquarters operations and workforce allocation,” said an anonymous company official.
Most of the 1,000 or so employees at Englewood Cliffs will be reassigned to Plano, leaving a small number in New Jersey to support local Samsung operations.
Last year, Samsung opened a Networks Innovation Center in Plano, Texas.
